Hello readers!
We are still working Drama. This week we have finished reading The Phantom Tollbooth and students have become drama critics for a day.
Lets see their reviews!
Hi guys!
We have started working with drama. After reading the first act of The Phantom Tollbooth, by Susan Nanus (based on the book by Norton Juster) our students have tried to create their own play. In the prewriting they selected the characters, setting (place and time) and the main events of the plot. Then they created those cool works.
Enjoy them!
Hi guys!
We are still working with folk tales but this week we have done a different thing. Students have choosen one lesson to be teach and then they have created their own story being sure that it has a modern setting. They could write their story in the present or in the future, but not in the past!
Lets see those writings!
Hi everyone! It has been a great week for all of us as Dr. Thompson received an email from the district saying how great we did in our CRTs and benchmarks during the year.
Those results were possible because of the effort of our amazing students.
GUYS, YOU ARE GREAT!!!
This week, in L.A we have read several Folk Tales. After working with them, students have created their own using characters from the original stories.
Look how great they did!
Hello people! This week students have read three essays, one of them about how Internet works. After that they have chosen two articles from the Wikipedia and they have compared them focusing in some of their characteristics: Amount of information, number of links, etc.
Do you want to see those compositions? There we go!
Hi again! Last week we read several biographies and autobiographies. For instance, In My Papa, Mark Twain, Susy Clemens shows us the private side of the author and humorist.
On the other hand, Gary Soto, the famous Californian writer, shares with us some memories of his childhood in The Drive-In Movies.
The last selection we read was “Space Shuttle Challenger”, an article by William Harwood which is a dramatic eyewitness account of the famous ill-fated mission.
After studying the similarities and differences of those two genres this superclass prepared short autobiographical narratives about an event, period or person in their lives.
Lets take a look at those works!
Hi guys! Spring is here and we thought it was a good idea to change the look of our blog. We hope you like it.
Last week, students read an historical essay by Patricia and Frederick McKissack. In the “Shoutout” the authors explain us the important role African-American community played in the origins of baseball.
We have done some research in the wikipedia to find out more information and then, in order to make their writings stronger, students have cited quotations from the selection they read.
Do you want to take a look at those samples? There we go!
Ooops… and have a happy break!
Hello friends! This week we have read “Exploring the Titanic” by Robert D. Ballard. In our writing lesson we have prepared an investigative report with the information from the story and also some research that we did on wikipedia. In the prewriting students identified what they know and what they would like to know about the Titanic. Then, before uploading their writings, they organize events in chronological order including details related to the events.
Lets take a look at those great writing samples!
Hi, people! We are not going to create the student blogs yet as we want students to get more use to post their comments in this main website. We also want the people from the district helping us in order to improve the security and privacy of our blogs.
This week we read two great selections: Eleven by Sandra Cisneros and Overdoing It by Anton Chekhov. In the writing lesson students described one of the characters analyzing three of his main traits. Then they looked for evidence to suport each trait.
It was a quick and short writing but important to assess how students understand the way authors build their characters.Do you want to see the results? There we go…
Yes, here we are! Thank you so much for stopping by, guys. From now on we will be using this space for sharing information and keeping you updated with the latest news in our classroom.
Our intention is that all the students could have their own blog, so they can upload their writing prompts and receive constructive comments from other mates and teachers. Once we have those ready we will link them from this main blog.
Just to start I would like you, whoever you are (parent, student, teacher…-) to do a first brief comment telling us what do you think about this initiative. Will it motivate our students? Will it make them focus on their writing now they know they have an audience? Will it help you being informed? Tell us!
Thanks once again for all your help and support. Please visit us and post often!
